Lucky seven....that’s what they say! And that surely held true for the seventh year that the Aventura Marketing Council (AMC) / World-Class Chamber of Commerce proudly held their signature event featuring amazing young singers from throughout South Florida at the elegant Aventura Arts & Cultural Center (AACC). This was the year that the AMC decided to bring back the ‘best of the best’ Young Stars from their previous six years...and it was a decision that proved oh so right!
The Aventura Mall returned as the Title Sponsor, Mount Sinai Medical Center as Presenting Sponsor, AT&T as the Platinum Sponsor and Fidelity Investments as the Silver Sponsor.
“I’ve been to New York and Las Vegas numerous times and have seen kids perform on Broadway and the Vegas Strip,” said AMC Chairman Cliff Schulman of Weiss Serota Helfman. “These youngsters are not far away from being able to do that! I am thrilled that we are able to give young talent in South Florida this opportunity and present such a professional show for the community.”
This year’s Emcee was Colombian opera star, performer and composer, Andres Buitrago, who opened the show with Quizas, Quizas, Quizas...bringing the house to its feet.
Some of the 2016 Young Stars have already been in the national spotlight, including Nick Merico who starred in the Nickelodeon hit tv show, Every Witch Way. In addition to Nick, 20, who flew in from California where he is currently writing and recording his original songs, this year’s showcase also featured other amazing young singers, including Sivan Ben-David, 14; CJ Fam, 17; Lily Forte, 15; Emily Kaufman, 12; Alexandra Marra, 17; Cassie Ortiz, 15; Lannie Rubio, 17; Valerie Vargas, 21 and Cameron Wheeler, 16 with a special guest appearance by Mason Pace, 15.
For months prior to the event, Creative Director Ran Oz of CooLAM Productions, worked with the Young Stars on song choice, costumes and choreography as well as set design. AACC Technical Director Marie Boudreau expertly directed her team for lighting, sound and special effects provided by Light F/X Pro’s, ensuring a truly professional production, while GM Jeff Kiltie coordinated his team to ensure another beautiful experience for all guests. AMC member restaurants including Mo’s Bagels & Deli, Captain Jim’s Seafood, Adena Grill and Wine Bar; Edible Arrangements; Novecento 900 and Yakko-San provided a tempting array of desserts for the post-show reception, as Gloria and Herb Barker, Barker Animation Art Galleries, gave each Young Star a valuable piece of animation artwork.
Throughout the evening, applause after applause filled the 330-seat theatre as each Young Star took the stage and made the words “best of the best” ring true. And for the first time, the AMC had all the Young Stars and Andres Buitrago record their show-stopping songs at Essential Media Group, thanks to CEO Paul Klein, and the 2016 YOUNG STARS SHOWCASE CDs are soon going to be placed on Amazon, iTunes and more so the world can hear just how wonderful these Young Stars are!
Proceeds benefited the Aventura Marketing Council’s Education Foundation that not only supports each year’s YSS, but also funds educational outreaches with its ten Dade Partner school programs working with at-promise students, mentorships, jobs, community service projects and scholarships.
