‘Chasing the American Dream’ hosted by Managing Bubbie author Russel Lazega and DSX Labs

“Shark Tank - Aventura Marketing Council style” was the entrepreneurial theme of the day when DSX Labs, a division of DSxpress, teamed with attorney Russel Lazega, author of the moving and entertaining book Managing Bubbie, to host the AMC’s May Chairman’s Roundtable luncheon. The event gave tech-related start-up companies chasing the American dream a golden opportunity to lure savvy investors with a perfect business pitch.

AMC Chair Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota Helfman welcomed AMC business and community leaders gathered at Christine Lee’s at Gulfstream Park along with DSX Labs partners Dimitry Shaposhnikov and Dan Gudema; and Florida Advocates law firm founder Russel Lazega, whose new book Managing Bubbie is receiving rave reviews on Amazon.

The ultimate networker proving entrepreneurship is alive and well featured a panel of successful potential investors: Elliot Harris, Mark Wigder and Dan Gudema. Similar to the critically-acclaimed TV show Shark Tank, the panel considered investments in exchange for partial ownership and ROI. The presenters included:  Scott Wagner of Who Ya Got; Leon Gomez of mycircles; and Thomas Gregory of SoFla Sunwear.

Before the sharks started circling, AMC members learned more about  Lazega’s new book, Managing Bubbie – a  poignant  book sharing the hilarious and often exhausting trials of his Miami Beach family as they try to manage their beloved but impossible “Bubbie” (a term of endearment for a Jewish grandmother). The book also vividly recounts the harrowing story of Bubbie’s amazing escape from Nazi clutches and the incredible lengths that a mother will go to save  her children.

Managing Bubbie remembers the Holocaust - highlighting how the indomitable spirit of love, hope and humor can triumph over deep despair. Lazega writes: “It was the last thing Bubbie said to me before I left for college: ‘I vant you should make a book from these tings telling what I did to bring mine children here to this country. A million dollars they’ll pay you for this book!’”

Going from the literary to technology, Shaposhnikov explained  how DSX Labs  helps solve issues faced by Internet tech start-ups, accelerators, incubators and small to large enterprise companies serving technology firms. “We offer advanced technology, affordable, shared space, access to mentors and investors as well as reduced development costs in exchange for equity,” he  explained.

“DSX Labs is currently developing the core technology for start-ups utilizing social, video, api, file management, mobile and other cloud based or Saas technologies. We’re also extremely interested in the whole process of devising tech business models, creating pitch decks, MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) and raising seed capital. We invite established tech leaders to share their advice and guidance, supporting the goal of DSX Labs to create sustainable tech business.”

LAW DAY 2015 celebrated by North Dade Justice Center

LAW DAY 2015, the 56th anniversary of National Law Day, was a special day for the Judges of the North Dade Justice Center as the culmination of their hard work with their committee resulted in another inspiring  and motivating program.  This year’s theme was “Celebrating the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, Symbol of Freedom Under Law”, and a full house of community and business leaders came to participate in this patriotic event featuring keynote speaker, Florida Senator Anitere Flores.

Judge Linda Singer Stein, Associate Administrative Judge, joined by Judge Betty Capote, Judge Jason Emilios Dimitris,  Judge Myriam Lehr, Judge Spencer Multack, Judge Caryn Canner Schwartz and Judge Diana Vizcaino, oversaw the planning of this  event with their own  judicial team and help from Miami-Dade County.

Sponsors were Law Offices of Fenstersheib & Berkowitz, P.A.;  Verbatim Support Services; Aventura Marketing Council; Crossroads Investigations; North Dade Bar Association; C1 Bank; Cuban American Bar Association;  Dade League of Prosecutors;  Haitian Lawyers Association and Florida Advocates-A Private Law Firm.

Special guests included Florida Senator Gwen Margolis, North Miami Mayor Smith Joseph, Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman, County Clerk Harvey Ruvin and  a room full of Commissioners, City Managers and Police Chiefs from cities throughout the county as well as representatives from many bar associations.

Festivities kicked off with a stunning rendition of  “God Bless America” by 16 year-old Lannie Rubio and the Honor Guard presentation from the Dr. Michael M. Krop Sr. High JROTC.    The North Dade Bar’s annual essay contest was  won by Isabelle Caous, 8th grader from David Lawrence, Jr. K – 8 Center. Russel Lazega and Esther Blynn from the   NDBA announced all the winners and invited Isabelle to read her essay,  “Personal Liberty vs. Government Regulation”.

As Sen. Flores began to speak passionately about the Magna Carta and freedom of destiny, there wasn’t a sound in the room.  ““How is it that the Magna Carta, this incredible document drafted in the Middle Ages, was to be the groundwork that laid out freedom, but freedoms weren’t granted until the idea of  democracy?...Where does that bring us today… our democracy has been around for 240 years and what makes this country so special is that knowledge inside of us knowing that we are the ones that get to set our destiny, not someone else.”
